Governors

School governors provide strategic leadership and accountability in schools. Governors appoint the head teacher. It is governors who hold the main responsibility for finance in schools, and they work with the headteacher to make strategic decisions to ensure that the school offers the best education for its children.

Role

The governing board is responsible for the conduct of the school and must do so in a way which promotes high standards of educational achievement. In particular, the governing board has three core functions to:

  • ensure there is clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  • hold the executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils; and the performance management of staff; and
  • oversee the financial performance of the organisation and makes sure its money is well spent.

Structure

Our governing body is structured into two main committees (full details of all committees can be found in the downloads section below). There are:

Committee Chair
Full Governing Body Dr Dan Lane (Chair)
Mr Dave Cusdin (Vice-Chair)
Resources Committee Mr Dave Cusdin

Dan Lane

I am the proud father of four children who attend/have attended Ingham School and really wanted an opportunity to offer something back to this excellent school. We have lived in Ingham since 2009, when I moved to the area to complete my GP speciality training programme. I am now a GP partner at a local village practice.

I have been a governor at Ingham School since 1988, starting as a parent governor and now am appointed by the LEA. Both my two children attended the school and, thanks to the great start Ingham gave them, are currently employed, one as a teacher and the other as transportation project manager working recently for the London Olympics. Now my 2 grandchildren attend the school. I work as a management consultant and try to bring this experience to the school. Outside of work, I love to play golf, walk and read.

Andy Hutchinson

I was born and educated in Lincolnshire and have lived locally most of my life. I have three girls who all attended Ingham Primary School. I have worked in the Pharmaceutical industry for many years and hopefully use some of this experience in fulfilling my role as governor. Outside of work, I love sport, particularly football.

Sarah Machin

I have been a governor at Ingham school for the last 8 years and have lived in Ingham for over 20 years. I am married to Steve and have two grown up children who have both gone to schools within Ingham, Lincoln and Welton. We have also sponsored the education of children in countries abroad and here in the UK. I have always been involved in learning and development in various senior roles and I have always had a passion for quality education and, especially, supporting children’s education. Outside of work, I continue to renovate our old house and garden, and play as a cellist with the British Police Symphony Orchestra.

An important part of being a Headteacher is reporting to governors and planning with them the strategic direction of the school. Governor's role is to assist the Headteacher to:

  • set the aims and objectives for the school;
  • set the policies for achieving those aims and objectives;
  • set the targets for achieving those aims and objectives;
  • monitor and evaluate the progress the school is making towards achievement of its aims and objectives; and to be a source of challenge and support to the headteacher (a critical friend).This is a vital part of my role and helps to ensure that we get the best possible outcomes for our children.

I have been at Ingham school for over 2 years and every day is different. Each day is filled with laughter, advice, lessons and learning. I have met so many amazing children and made some great memories. I believe dreams don't have to just be dreams. You can make it a reality; if you just keep pushing and keep trying, then eventually you'll reach your goal. Enjoy the journey, embrace the failure and shape YOUR future.

Having spent over 35 years working for the NHS we retired to Ingham and were made to feel at home straight away. I sought voluntary work in the School and have been so impressed by the behaviours and values of the Children and staff  and wanted to be part of such a great school. I hope my experience in service evaluation and project and  change management can be of some use to the governing body.

I am a dad to two children; my daughter currently attends Ingham Primary School and my son will be due to start in a few years. I am an engineering manager for a large business in Nottingham. My family and I have lived in Ingham for 5 years. I want to support the school as much as possible and I am therefore grateful to have been elected to contribute as parent governor.
